Discover a new practical and symbolic take on the timeless classic of Hinduism: the Bhagavad Gita.

We have all encountered crises in our lives that have turned our certainty into confusion, shattered our dreams, and replaced our hope with despair. When our world is turned completely upside down, how can we find ourselves again and move forward? Ancient myths present us with analogous circumstances where the Hero must overcome fear and doubt in order to confront these tests that block our way. In this brief lecture, we will examine the timeless teachings given to Arjuna in the Hindu classic, The Bhagavad Gita, to discover how we must first conquer ourselves in order to conquer the adversity in the world around us. This kind of knowledge is both empowering and liberating and can be applied directly to our lives today. Join us for this FREE lecture, and should you want to continue, join us in Porter Square for our course: Philosophies of East and West. This course is designed to make timeless wisdom both accessible and practical. The impact of these essential truths in our everyday lives can be life altering if lived and not just learned. PAST EVENTS

ArtBeat 2019

Davis Square, Somerville

ArtBeat in Davis Square is one of our favorite festivals, and we're celebrating The Renaissance yet again! This time in history showed how the rediscovery of classical philosophy led to a cultural, artistic, economic and political rebirth - one we can see happen again today. This is a call for people everywhere to actively cultivate wisdom. Why? "Philosophy" or love of wisdom is something that at its foundation can change the world: it's about recognizing and solving problems before they happen, and choosing the wisest way to tackle a specific issue.

The theme at this year's festival is "consumed," so we ask you, what are you consumed by? As philosophers, this is an important question to ask because it can reveal something about ourselves: what drives us? Where did this drive come from? And where, exactly, is it driving us to? Thinkers of the Renaissance were consumed by their idea of the human being becoming an active participant in the creation of a better world. Come by our booth to learn how we can revive this spirit of philosophy today in order to renew ourselves and our world in 2019! More Info

Georges Island: Wellness Outing

Join us for a wellness experience on Georges Island! We will focus on ways to cultivate our inner health through the practice of Tibetan Hatha Yoga and Tibetan Sticks. Please bring a picnic lunch or there will be a cafeteria on the island. After our lunch and practice, we will connect with nature by exploring the island.

TIBETAN HATHA YOGA:
We invite you to try out a practice that has been around for thousands of years, tested by many people across time and cultures.
Practicing pranayama is a means to regulate and balance our vital life force energy called “prana” through gentle, coordinated movements, and guiding of the breath.

TIBETAN STICKS:
This is a practice of centerness and awareness. The practice of passing sticks in a circle is in itself easy, but our minds make it difficult with its tendency to wander and become distracted by what is happening around us.

Unleash Your Superpowers!

A Three Week Course

Everybody has something that makes them extraordinary. But like most superheroes, our powers often lie dormant. They’re covered by convention or suppressed by our own selves.. until something comes and awakens us.

The time is now!

We may not be able to fly or shoot laser beams from our eyes, but we may just find that our super abilities are much more practical. Using the power of inner reflection, storytelling and examining truths gleaned from classical philosophy, Unleash Your Superpower is a 3 week course that promises a direct encounter with the greatest of heroes and heroines: ourselves.

Not Your Average Bookclub: Thich Nhat Hahn

PEACE IS EVERY STEP: From Amazon's book description: "Lucidly and beautifully written, Peace Is Every Step contains commentaries and meditations, personal anecdotes and stories from Nhat Hanh’s experiences as a peace activist, teacher, and community leader. It begins where the reader already is—in the kitchen, office, driving a car, walking a part—and shows how deep meditative presence is available now. Nhat Hanh provides exercises to increase our awareness of our own body and mind through conscious breathing, which can bring immediate joy and peace. Nhat Hanh also shows how to be aware of relationships with others and of the world around us, its beauty and also its pollution and injustices. The deceptively simple practices of Peace Is Every Step encourage the reader to work for peace in the world as he or she continues to work on sustaining inner peace by turning the “mindless” into the mindFUL."
